Recognize your inability to overcome Habitual sin.

You have what is called habitual or “besetting” sins. Some sins are easier to overcome than others. Besetting sins are habits that you have developed during your life as an unbeliever and they require more grace and discipline to overcome them. Part of the process of overcoming those habitual, or besetting, sins is in recognizing the transformation that has indeed taken place within you as a believer. Rom 6:11 “You must consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God thru Christ Jesus”
When you “consider yourself dead to sin,” God wants you to remember that in coming to Christ, the power of sin has been broken in your life. You were at one time a slave to sin, but now by God first calling you and you by choosing,  you are a slave to righteousness (Romans 6:17-18). From the cross, the power of sin was broken in your life you were set free from sin’s slavery over you. Therefore, when you sin, it is no longer out of the necessity of your nature, but because you are willfully submitted yourself to sin’s dominion (Galatians 5:1).

Recognize your inability to overcome habitual sin and your need to rely on the power of God’s Holy Spirit, who dwells within you. “Know that nothing good dwells in you, that is, in your flesh. For even when you desire to do what is right, you find you do not have the ability to carry it out” (Romans 7:25). Your struggle against sin is one in which your ability does not match your desire. That is why you need the power of the Holy Spirit. “For the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, God who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal body through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11). The Holy Spirit, through God’s Word (John 17:17), works sanctification in you as a follower in Gods son. Habitual sin is overcome as you submit yourself to God and refuse the temptations of the flesh (James 4:7-8). Remove from your life anything, even those things close to you, if they tempt you to sin. In short, change the habits that lead to habitual sin.

Each time you encounter your Besetting sin realize you’re Not alone. When your Besetting struggle comes; ASK God for his strength to defeat your temptation. The Holy Spirit within you will then be empowered to give you Supernatural Force. That Encounter that time of Temptation is His. Victory comes one Battle at a time.
