The danger of comparing yourself with others is that it can lead to jealousy and envy--two attitudes that are detestable in God's sight. Scripture says: “Be what you were made to be, without enviously or pride fully comparing yourself with each other, or trying to be something you aren't.” (Romans 12:6) If you will concentrate on becoming who GOD created you to be--instead of who you think you ought to be, or who someone else wants you to be--you will experience a sense of peace and security that will enable you to resist focusing on what those around you are doing. You are unique! And God is fitting you for a purpose like no one else's.
How often do you fall into the trap of evaluating others based on outward appearance? How often do you draw conclusions about a person based on looks and status? These prejudices affect the relationships you pursue and the counsel you give as well as receive. But God calls you to consider the heart of others and to strongly examine the condition of your own heart!
Much of your life is focused on being externally impressive. You desire the "right" looks, credentials, and possessions. You believe your outward condition makes you more valued, and some people do base their value on these outward coverings. But God looks past the external and directly pierces into who you are on the inside. Your focus must forever be on how you are viewed in the eyes of God, not the eyes of humans.
There are very few things with eternal value. And nothing outside the will of God can survive the flames of judgment. The priorities of your life become the treasures which mold your heart; "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). And your heart is NEVER hidden from the eyes of God!
Place your treasure firmly in the palm of His Hand. Begin to consider the riches stored inside your Brothers and Sisters, and consider your true appearance as you stand before The Holy Father. Everything external will one day fade away and you will stand bare and empty, with God looking at your heart.
All you have to do is concentrate on doing your personal best--in whatever work you do, or whatever role you’re in--and you can feel secure and satisfied knowing that God is pleased with you, and you don't need to compare yourself with anyone else.
