The Day of the Lord

The day of the Lord will come not merely like a thief, but like a thief in the night. A thief in the day won’t scare anybody not in the house, but a thief in the night will scare the daylights, the pants and socks out of family members – when lights are dimmed, when eyes are sleepy and when resistance is weak.

The Day of the Lord is a Day of Decision
You are of the light and a person of the day. You do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, do not be like others, who are asleep, but be (alert and self-controlled).  For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since you belong to the day, be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. (1 Thess 5:5-8)

Alert is “watchfulness” not merely seeing. Watch and see is different. See is merely with the eyes, but watch is with all the senses – eyes, ears and mind. Seeing is the ability, watching is the attitude. Watchfulness has to do with awareness, attentiveness and anticipation. Alert has to do with external surrounding, but self-control with internal restrains, usually in the context of drunkenness. Self-control is to have clarity of thought and is not being confused in your thinking.. It is sensibility in a senseless world, level-headedness in a shrewd world, survival in a lost world.

The Day of the Lord is a Day of Deliverance
For God did not appoint you to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. He died for you so that, whether you are awake or asleep, you may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up. (1 Thess 5: 9-11)

The day of the Lord for those who are Saved, is not doomsday, distress or doubt day, disgrace or dishonor, discard, destruction or desolation, defeat and despair, but a day of deliverance, decoration and distinction for believers.

While there are troubles, trials and tribulation at His coming, His intention was for the deliverance of His people. The good news in His coming is He did not come to sentence you in wrath but to save you from wrath. The coming of the Lord is not about God’s wrath, but His salvation – not about His rage but His redemption, not about dread but deliverance, His fury but His fellowship, not about His anger but His assurance.
