No one can look at a person and see what’s in their heart. No matter how well you know them, everyone has some issues in their life that need to be dealt with. If you’re going to make a difference in the lives of others for God, you are going to have to put yourself in their place.
Jesus put himself in your place. Although he is completely holy, he does not look at you and say, boy you really don’t measure up. You got issues on top of issues. You come back to me after you’ve gotten yourself a little more together. When Jesus put himself in your place, He sees that you have issues, but He also sees that you cannot do very much on your own about those issues.
Remember saying the promise, “I’ll never do that again” and even though you meant it at the time, “you still did it again.” There is a nature in you that keeps you from being able to keep your promises to do better and to try harder. That nature is called sin, and it is determined to mess up your life. You can have the best of plans for your future, but just one sin can change it all around. It has nothing to do with God punishing you. It is simply getting the consequence of your behavior.
When Jesus looked at the crowd, he did not see people who had it altogether. One of the greatest lies you have believed from the devil is when you look at others is that they have it altogether. You convince yourself that they really do not need help. So you go on about your business thinking, they really do not need your help. Somebody else will come along if they need help later.
Jesus saw you as being harassed and helpless. The time you get pass one problem here comes another one. Once you think something has been worked out; here it comes back in your face again. Maybe you thought or you’ve known someone who thought their job is secure; then back on the unemployment line. You thought the argument was over; here they come bringing back up the same mess all over again. Life is a time of harassment and everybody is being harassed by something in life. God uses those harassments to show you, your need for Him.
Discover what people are being harassed by, and then you can talk to them about how God can work in that situation. People need to see God as being relevant to their situation, for them to be open to hearing about God. When you discover their own harassment & where they realize they are helpless, you can point them to Jesus.
